A short list for a first visit to Guyana
From the capital to the interior, a handful of experiences capture the spirit of the country. Use them as a starting point and let the rest unfold.

A first visit to Guyana usually combines city, waterfall and wilderness. The country is large and travel in the interior takes time, so it is better to choose a few experiences and enjoy them fully than to try to see everything.
Spend a morning at Stabroek Market, visit St. George’s Cathedral and walk the seawall at sunset. Seek out local restaurants for pepperpot, cook-up rice and roti, and time your trip to coincide with a festival if you can.
Kaieteur Falls is the defining day trip for many visitors. For a longer stay, the Rupununi and the forests of central Guyana offer wildlife, birding and time with Indigenous communities. River journeys reveal another side of the country altogether.
Whatever you choose, leave room for the unplanned: a conversation, a detour or an afternoon simply watching the river.
