Getting Around

Moving through Guyana by road, river and air

Distances in Guyana are large and the interior is remote. Knowing how travel works will help you plan a realistic itinerary.

Along the coast and around Georgetown, travel is mostly by road. Taxis are a common way for visitors to move around the city, and many hotels can help arrange reliable drivers.

Into the interior

Much of the interior is reached by small aircraft, many of which fly from Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle, near Georgetown. Rivers remain important routes, and some destinations combine flights, boats and road travel in a single journey.

Weather and seasonal water levels affect both flights and roads. Build extra time into your plans, keep luggage light for small aircraft and travel with guides who know the conditions.
